What a church is really saying when wanting a part time or bi-vocational pastor is:
1. We don't have the funds to pay a full time salary (but we want full time attention). Or.
2. We have a vision for growth but until we get more members and giving is up we don't
have faith enough that we can afford a "real" pastor. Or.
3. We have the vision for growth but we're actually putting results before faith.
Now that may sound harsh--and it doesn't fit every circumstance churches face. Many are truly start-ups or orphans that need to grow into their care. But too many have it all backwards. Instead of stepping out in faith and being involved in outreach and missions and fellowship, many smaller churches will never grow because they are not acting on their vision--or their vision is too limited.
NOTE: This is not to demean or belittle bi-vocational pastors--let's face it, most Bi-Vo's work harder and longer on their pastoral duties than their full time other job!
When God is truly in the midst of a body of believers who have a single purpose--a God given vision-- God will bring the increase. When a church is sacrificial with it's time, talents, and resources...God works to bring about incredible results. For with God, all things are possible!
